Hailed as “abundantly talented” by Opera Canada, Alexa Frankian emerges as a captivating presence in the world of opera and art song. At the youthful age of 23, her performances resonate with warmth, engaging audiences on a profound level with her innate ability to connect. Possessing an impeccable technique and a stage presence that exudes charm, Alexa is swiftly gaining recognition as an emerging artist to watch.

Stepping onto the international stage, Alexa is poised to become a Merolini, joining the ranks of the renowned Merola Opera Program in San Francisco this summer, an achievement that solidifies her status as a rising star. Additionally, she has been accepted into the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia, where she will assume the role of Resident Artist come fall.
Alexa’s accolades speak volumes of her talent, including an Encouragement Award at the 2024 Met Laffont Competition Buffalo – Toronto District, and a third-place win at her first-ever International event: The 2023 Mildred Miller International Voice Competition. Her recent portrayal of Madame Lidoine in Dialogues des Carmélites left audiences spellbound, showcasing her powerful voice and emotional depth.

Her formal musical odyssey began with her Bachelor of Music in Performance at the esteemed University of Toronto. Currently, she continues to refine her craft in her second-year Artist Diploma studies at The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School, under the tutelage of distinguished mentors Stephanie Bogle and David Eliakis.
In addition to her operatic endeavours, Alexa’s versatility shines through notably in her role as Coach in GGS’s Tapestry Opera commissioned Canadian Chamber Opera Ice Time. She made her unforgettable Koerner Hall debut last spring and triumphed in her first full opera role as Older Woman in Jonathan Dove’s Flight.
As she continues to evolve as an artist, Alexa’s journey is enriched by the wisdom imparted through masterclasses with luminaries including Martin Katz, Jake Heggie, and Christine Goerke. Her passion for timeless composers like Puccini, Strauss, Verdi, and Wagner, alongside contemporary repertoire, fuels her artistic vision, recognizing music as a universal language that unites cultures and soothes the soul.

A true embodiment of diversity, Alexa embraces her Canadian roots and her rich heritage, representing nine nations through her bloodlines and experiences. Her repertoire extends beyond borders, encompassing productions such as Tosca, Pagliacci, La Bohème, and The Tenderland. She has also left her mark in culturally significant works like Bas Sheve (Yiddish Opera North-American Premiere) and Kwanyin The Golden Fish in Dora Award-nominated The Monkiest King.
