Biography:

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Toronto bassist Scott Kemp is a graduate of the Humber College Jazz Studies Program in Toronto (2004), where he studied with Mike Downes, Pat Collins, and Don Thompson. He has recorded five albums (garnering 4 JUNO nominations and 2 Polaris Prize nominations) with the multiple award-winning artist Elizabeth Shepherd, and he has toured extensively throughout the world with her including performances at the Cotton Club (Tokyo, JP), North Seas Jazz Festival (NL), The Jazz Café (London UK), The Hollywood Bowl (USA), and numerous jazz festivals, and clubs and radio live-to-airs across Canada, the US, Europe, Mexico and Asia.
Scott has been actively involved in music for over 30 years and continues to be a busy freelance musician teaching acoustic/electric bass/musical applications and performing jazz, Latin, flamenco, middle eastern music, folk, pop/rock, funk, classical, and blues. He is also the composer/leader of The Scott Kemp Collective who released their 2009 album ‘Introductions’ to considerable acclaim.

He has opened for international luminaries such as Jamie Cullum, The Count Basie Orchestra, Christian McBride, Victor Wooten, The Five Corners Quintet, and Spanky Wilson & The Quantic Soul Orchestra.

Scott’s collaborations include performances with the JUNO winning big band NOJO, Don Byron, Michael Occhipinti, David Gogo, Alexander Maxsimiw, Lori Cullen, Shannon Butcher, Swing Rosie, The Maisies, Elvis Bossa Nova, Max Senitt, Amanda Martinez, Heather Bambrick, Nick Ali, William Carn, Kevin Turcotte, Peter Hill, Dylan Murray, to name a few.
