janïsa is vintage soul on a one-way flight to cosmic RnB. At times doing shows with her acoustic guitar Venus and other times with a band, any iteration is sweet and savoury as janïsa sings about entangled scripts of love, loss and introspection along the way. Currently resides in Toronto, janïsa has showcased her originals all over Canada at Festivals like NXNE, Vancouver Island Music Fest, Manifesto Festival, Sofar Toronto shows, and featured a multiple times on CBC Music and Radio.
Janïsa sings, writes and produces for stage, recording and film. A consummate performer, her versatility and talent have informed her career’s expansion from singer to actor to producer. Capturing the attention of audiences and critics alike, she narrated, composed and underscored music for Ravi Jain’s award-winning staging of Salt-Water Moon in Mirvish Productions.
Expanding as an actor, Janïsa’s feature film debut was This Place (Mutuals Production COMPANY, 2022) The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.
As a mother and artist, Janïsa’s journey has led her to establish the Mother Artist Society Collective to gather, connect, support and advocate for mothers and their art; this was based on her own experiences with the particular kind of marginalization faced by creative women.
