Sarah Thompson’s captivating tone and storytelling lyrics feel like the coming-of-age film the LGBTQ+ community never had – or more accurately, that she never had. Growing up in a small suburb outside of Vancouver, she began writing songs in high school out of necessity, when she was feeling the most isolated. There, on a clunky second-hand keyboard in her basement, she developed her craft as a skillful songwriter. “High school was weird for a number of reasons but mostly because I was coming to terms with my queerness – it was perfect really, because I could write all these things about how I was feeling without revealing too much.”
And without revealing too much, Sarah reveals all, transporting us straight to the adorable indie movie that is her life. Through her effortlessly cool and stunning vocals, you’ll find yourself back in math class, crushing on the girl who happens to be your best friend, but is nonetheless dating the jock on the football team. Stories so cliche, you wonder how they haven’t been told before, and the only answer is that in our polarizing society, it’s still hard to be this honest. “I didn’t have anyone like me to look up to growing up, so I really want to be that person for younger people now,” Sarah says.
Sarah has come a long way from her first introduction into the public – her first million views on TikTok being a series of Taylor Swift covers, in which she cleverly changed the pronouns in each song. Since then she has been approached by multi-platinum award winning producer/songwriter Lowell (Madison Beer, Charli XCX, Lennon Stella, Nessa Barrett) who has teamed up with A&C to sign her to their new indie label, FLP (For the Love of Pop) Records. Her upcoming body of work is also in collaboration with multi-platinum producer Mike Wise (Leah Kate, Ellie Goulding, Bulow) and multi-juno award winning mixing engineer Gus Vango (Metric, The Beaches, The Stills). Independently releasing her own music she has also landed a sync in HBO’s “Sex Lives of College Girls” and her duet “fallin fallin” with French artist, Fhin, has amassed over 5 million streams on Apple and Spotify.
