At 24, Toronto-based musician Paul Callander is not your average trumpet player. A graduate of Humber College’s Bachelor of Music program, Paul’s journey began at age 12 when he picked up the trumpet. His musical prowess quickly surpassed his years, and he soon found his voice as a modern-day crooner.Influenced by legends like Johnny Hartman, Louis Armstrong, and Clifford Brown, Paul has crafted a unique sound that captivates audiences. As a trumpeter, vocalist, bandleader, and composer, he’s become a prominent figure in Toronto’s vibrant music scene. Regularly gracing renowned Toronto venues such as the Rex, Drom Taberna, and Lula Lounge, Paul has become a sought-after performer, leaving an indelible mark with his unforgettable live shows.Accompanied by a hand-picked quartet of some of Toronto’s finest young musicians, Paul has released two albums to date: “The Green Trees of June” (March 2020) and the latest, “PCQ+2” (August 2022). Each release is a testament to Paul’s artistry and a mosaic of the ways in which he interprets music. With a fusion of virtuosity and soulful melodies, Paul Callander is not just a musician; he’s a sonic storyteller whose performances are not to be missed.
