Ryoko Hou is a highly accomplished collaborative pianist and harpsichordist, celebrated for her diverse repertoire spanning from the Middle Ages to contemporary compositions. Her musical journey began at the tender age of 3, when she first touched the piano keys in her native Japan.
During her formative years, Ryoko broadened her musical horizons by embarking on flute studies in middle school. As a young musician, she showcased her talents as a soloist in various cities and even participated in national competitions in Japan.
Ryoko’s illustrious career has graced the stages of prestigious venues in France, England, Austria, Canada, and her homeland. Her educational achievements are equally remarkable, including an Advanced Certificate in Piano Performance, and a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano, all earned at the prestigious University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, Canada. Her mentors, including Adam Sherkin, the late Peter Longworth, Jeanie Chung, Chris Foley, Steven Philcox, and Lydia Wong, have played an instrumental role in her development.
Currently, Ryoko is ardently pursuing her second Master’s degree in Historical Performance, specializing in the harpsichord under the guidance of Christopher Bagan and Charlotte Nediger. This journey is generously supported by the Dame Emma Kirby and Suzie Leblanc Graduate Scholarship, along with the University of Toronto Fellowship award. She extends her heartfelt gratitude to the Tafelmusik Orchestra for their generous loan of a French double manual harpsichord, which has facilitated her access to period instruments. Ryoko’s musical odyssey is a resounding testament to her unwavering dedication and unwavering passion for the world of music.
