I am Matthew Davies, a half British, half Chinese individual who thrives in multiple domains, including engineering drafting, music, and the arts. Over the past five years, I have been actively engaged in the field of engineering drafting while pursuing my passion for music during my free time.

By day, I excel as an engineering draftsman, drawing on my meticulous attention to detail and innovative mindset to deliver exceptional designs. Throughout my career, I have gained a reputation for my unwavering commitment to quality and precision, earning recognition and appreciation from colleagues and clients alike.

Outside of my professional realm, my heart beats to the rhythm of music. My band, Friction, began its journey in 2019, but I have been playing music with its members since 2012. We embody the DIY spirit and take pride in handling every aspect of our musical journey ourselves. From writing and recording our music to organizing and occasionally putting on successful shows, we strive to maintain creative control and autonomy.

Embracing the ethos of DIY culture, Friction has built its own momentum over the last couple of years. As a result, we feel compelled to use our platform to give smaller artists and bands a chance to perform and gain exposure within our local scene. By curating shows and events, we provide opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their skills and get their names out there. Supporting and nurturing the local music community has become an integral part of our mission.

As the lead guitarist of Friction, I channel my passion and energy into our music. With every strum of the guitar, I contribute to our distinct sound that resonates with audiences. Our intense and energetic live performances captivate crowds and leave a lasting impact. We believe that music is a powerful tool for connection and self-expression, and we strive to create an inclusive and immersive experience for our fans.

In addition to my role in Friction, I explore my creative prowess through composition. Evoking emotions through my music, I have found a place for my compositions in digital art galleries, where they merge seamlessly with visual installations, creating immersive and transformative experiences. Recognized for my ability to elicit emotions through music and my understanding of the symbiotic relationship between sound and visual art, I am sought-after within the digital art community.

While music holds a special place in my heart, I am not limited to a single art form. As a multidisciplinary artist, I venture into various mediums, continuously pushing boundaries and blurring the lines between art forms. My experimental and innovative approach has opened doors to exciting collaborations and opportunities within the art world. Notably, I have been selected to feature in the esteemed Nuit Blanche event in Toronto in 2023, further validating my artistic prowess and earning recognition from prestigious institutions.

My journey is driven by the fusion of technical expertise and creative vision. I bring unwavering dedication, passion, and innate talent to every endeavor I undertake, leaving an indelible mark on the engineering and artistic communities. With a future brimming with promise, I am committed to surpassing expectations and making lasting contributions in both fields.
