Biography:

Dov Beck-Levine lives at the crossroads of the music theory geek and the free-thinking artist. The Toronto-born multi-instrumentalist, composer and performer blends together a plethora of musical traditions, genres, and flavours, and serves them up in a unique cocktail that he affectionately calls “feel-good fusion”. Dov is well versed in various professional roles in the world of music, and regularly works as an Arranger, Performer, and Session Musician, as well as working as a Composer/Producer of music for various media. Dov has been a sought-after Music Director. In addition, he has had the pleasure of working with the likes of John Paterno, Housewife, Christophe Beck, Madds Buckley – the list goes on!

While Dov began as a typical young blues guitarist, his fierce musical curiosity has led him to live earnestly in the musical worlds of Jazz, Rock, Funk, Folk, Gospel, RnB, Metal, Klezmer, Salsa, and too many more to count. He also acts as bandleader and frontman for Dov’s Scrambled Jazz Eggs, a group of like-minded and brilliantly talented young musicians from multiple cities across North and Central America.

As a working musician, Dov has spent years honing his skills to allow himself to best realize the visions of his clients. His many jobs as a sideman, including his ongoing gig performing and recording behind the award-winning band Housewife, have led him to play classic Canadian musical events including Ottawa Blues Fest, the Toronto Pride Festival, Aeolian Hall, in addition to a North American tour opening for Paulo Nutini. Dov has a bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Writing & Production and Jazz Composition from his four years on scholarship at Berklee College of Music, where as a freshman his arrangements immediately caught the attention of his professors. By his senior year of college, he’d become a well respected member of the community, widely sought after for his arranging and instrumental work. In Fall 2021, Berklee awarded Dov an additional scholarship after winning the Award for Creativity in Commercial Arranging.

Regardless of where he is or who he’s playing with, Dov is continually creating music in his own distinctive brand of composition and arrangement. His solo work has garnered a reputation for being unique, engaging, personal, and often quite technically challenging. Considering the abundant musical landscapes that he occupies, it’s unsurprising that most of Dov’s music defies classification. Despite this, there is a common thread that ties his work together – the immediately apparent joy he brings to all of his works. His art has seen praise from the likes of Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses, Asia), Chilly Gonzales (Drake, Daft Punk) Susan Rogers (Prince, CSNY, Barenaked Ladies), and Greg Hopkins (Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespe, Buddy Rich).

Dov’s fifth release, South Side, is available now. His debut album, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, will be released in May of 2023.
