Brendan Rogers
Cellist
Not just bound to the realm of classical music – the ever eclectic cellist Brendan Rogers is an innovative performer and music educator. A two time recipient of the Felix Galimir chamber award and beneficiary of the Laura Kinton Muir prize he is always eager to be on stage in any form, with his most recent engagements being several concerts with the Ontario Philharmonic and a performance with the Canadian singer/songwriter SHEAL. Prior to this he was extremely honoured to have given the inaugural performance of a cello sonata written for him by the talented budding composer Julian Cruz.
He is currently in the final year of a Master’s Degree in Cello Performance at the University of Toronto, studying with the Principal Cellist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Joseph Johnson. During this degree he recently gave a solo recital with a diverse program of varying genres including works such as the Debussy cello sonata, Differences by Carter Pann, and 21 by Andy Akiho.
In the preceding years Brendan has been extremely active as a performer – sitting in with several orchestras such as the Ontario Philharmonic (with Maestro Marco Parisotto), the Canadian Sinfonietta (under the baton of Maestro Tak Ng Lai), and the Georgian Bay symphony (with Maestro Francois Koh). In addition to this he has also played as a session musician for touring artists (including Shahryar Rumi and Jess Leung) at venues like the Mod Club. In a similar vein, he also regularly records for performing artists and was recently featured in the songs “Yung God” and “Star” for the rapper Russ’ 2022 ‘Shake the Globe’ world tour.
Prior to his current Master’s Degree he completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education studying cello with the distinguished Shauna Rolston, and an Advanced Certificate of Performance with the aforementioned Joseph Johnson.
