Biography:

Winner of the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award and the Eleanor Stubley Recording Prize, violist Justin Almazan is a laureate of Prix d’Orford and the Golden Violin Award.

In 2022, Justin has been invited to receive private tutelage from master musicians such as Tabea Zimmermann, Nobuko Imai, Volker Jacobsen and Wolfram Christ. He has already performed for artists such as Pamela Frank, Maxim Rysanov, Peter Wiley, Barbara Westphal, Heidi Castleman, Maté Szucs, the Miro Quartet, and the Emerson String Quartet.

As a chamber musician, Justin has performed with Kim Kashkashian, Joseph Silverstein, James Buswell, Philip Setzer, as well as principal players of the Atlanta Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His ensemble, the Persée String Quartet, was accepted to MISQA as a senior quartet, and was selected to compete in Premio Paolo Borciani and the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in Norway. In 2017, Justin toured Italy as a member of the Milton String Quartet’s Fischoff Competition Grand Prize tour.

As an orchestral musician, Justin has performed with Seattle, Montréal, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras.

He has participated in the New York String Orchestra Seminar, Sarasota Music Festival, Weimar Bach Academy, Thy Chamber Music Festival, Stavanger Kammermusik, the Heifetz Music Institute, Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme, Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, Casalmaggiore, Schiermonnikoog Festival Young Talent, Vetta Chamber Music, and the Orford Music Festival.

Currently, Justin is a doctoral candidate at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, studying with André Roy and Victor Fournelle-Blain. Previously, Justin studied with Arnold Steinhardt, Paul Coletti, Lynne Ramsey, Jeffrey Irvine, and Robert Vernon.
