Biography:

Hee-Soo Yoon is one of today’s aspiring young violinists. Having performed across Canada, the United
States, Europe, and South Korea, she enjoys sharing her love of music with her audience.
Hee-Soo made her solo debut at 11, performing Vivaldi’s Spring with the Vancouver Symphony, with
maestro Bramwell Tovey. As a recitalist she has performed with pianists Robert Koenig and Amanda
Chan. Dedicated to mastering her craft, she has performed in masterclasses for world-renowned artists
and teachers including James Ehnes and Midori.

While she may have started off as a soloist, Ms. Yoon has since then discovered a love for collaboration
and is an avid chamber musician. She has performed with members of the Borromeo and Cleveland
String Quartets, and has worked with members of the Brentano, Miró, and Juilliard String Quartets. She
has also coached with many chamber musicians including Thomas Sauer, Katherine Murdock, and Lucy
Chapman, among others. She performs with larger ensembles as well, including past performances with
[nec] shivaree, an avant-garde ensemble based in Boston, and with Noree Performing Arts (now known
as Noree Chamber Soloists), formerly a Korean dance troupe based in New York City.

Passionate about new music, she has worked with many living composers, including Sofia Gubaidulina,
Julian Anderson, Andy Akiho, and Eduardo Caballero. In August of 2021 she performed in
the world premiere of the late Roger Tapping’s composition Reverberations for string quartet at Yellow Barn
in Putney, Vermont.

One of Hee-Soo’s most memorable experiences as an orchestral musician include the partnership
between The Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music in London in the summer of 2018 which
was led by Sir Edward Gardiner at the baton and soloist James Ehnes, where they performed at the
Aldeburgh Festival and the BBC Proms. Hee-Soo has also toured Canada with Iranian singer Homayoun Shajarian and the Royal Siavash Orchestra under the baton of Arash Gooran.

While she enjoys performing in concert halls, Hee-Soo is passionate about bringing music to smaller
spaces. Some of her favourite performances include house concerts hosted by Groupmuse, which allow
her to connect more personally with her audience. Furthermore, she was a Gluck Fellow for the
2019-2020 season at The Juilliard School, whose responsibilities included bringing music to hospitals and
underprivileged communities throughout New York City, making music accessible for all.

Born in 1995, Hee-Soo began the violin at the age of 3 in her hometown of Victoria, Canada. Today she
continues to share her passion through concerts, community engagement, and collaboration with fellow
musicians. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, The Juilliard School, and the Glenn Gould School, her previous teachers include Mayumi Seiler, Donald Weilerstein, Laurie Smukler, David Cerone, and Andrew Dawes. She
currently plays on a 2014 Douglas Cox copy of the “Gibson” ex-Huberman Stradivarius.
