Biography:

Jonathan started learning violin at the age of six under Lo Chu-Tung in the Junior Associate Program at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. As a teenager player, he won numerous prizes in the competitions in the Hong Kong School Music Festival, among them was the Sandra Wagstaff String Concerto Competition.

After receiving his Bachelor degree in violin performance in University of Michigan under Andrew Jennings, he was awarded a scholarship to study violin performance in the graduate school in Northwestern University, where he was guided by Blair Milton, a violin player at Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and received his Master of Music from Northwestern. During his years in the United States, Jonathan had been playing in some of the best training Orchestras in North America, such as National Repertory Orchestra and Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Jonathan started his music career and played at Hong Kong Sinfonietta as a tutti violin. He was also appointed as the founding concertmaster of the Hong Kong String Orchestra in 2013, and played in the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, where he acted as associate concertmaster and second principal for multiple times. In addition, he was also involved in many pop concerts, recording sessions and commercial gigs.

Besides performing, he is dedicated in teaching violin in private tutorials, primary and secondary school classes, with most of his students getting distinctions or merits in the Royal School ABRSM violin exams. His students also won numerous prizes in violin competition both in Hong Kong and other places.

Jonathan has relocated to Toronto in March 2021, and he is building his private studio. He was also appointed as the assistant conductor and concertmaster of the Ontario Cross-cultural Music Society Symphony Orchestra.
