Biography:

Glenn Marais

Glenn Marais is an accomplished singer/songwriter with a Juno Nomination and a Socan Number One Award. He is an incredible guitarist and singer with a amazing vocal range, from Delta blues to soul, rock, funk and reggae. He can do it all and is extremely passionate for Delta Blues music and its history, bringing it to life with a Dobro, storytelling songs and ripping blues harmonica playing. Glenn also released a book of poetry, Dance with Fear Live in the Light, and is currently working on a follow-up and a musical play. He is a passionate writer, who has written several children’s stories and two novels to date. He also leads a five piece band of world class musicians that play a fusion of blues rock, funk and reggae. Glenn is a music educator and a philanthropist who uses his music to heal and help teaching character education through his company Music in Mind thousands of people, young and old, inspiring them to get involved locally and globally with his universal motto, “Give to Live”.
• Glenn was nominated for a Juno award in the best songwriting category for co-writing, “Everybody Wants to Be Like You” by the artist, “Snow” in 2000. The song was the second fastest rising song in Canadian history, reaching the Top Ten and is currently the fifth most played song in Canadian radio history.
• Glenn came second in the 2006 Mix 99.9 Canadian Radio Star Contest, with his entry, “Don’t Let Your Love Go”
• In November 2005, Glenn flew to Africa to film a video for his song, “Like a Child” that debuted on Much More Music on Jan.30th/2006 and went to number one on Much More Music’s “Clip Trip” show.
• Raised over $100 000 for the Cotlands Orphanage in South Africa through the Stephen Lewis Foundation
• His song, “On the Shoulders of Giants” was selected by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Foundation to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s upcoming 90th birthday.
• Created a national kindness campaign, Say My Name Canada, that was featured on the front page of The Toronto Star, Global Television and CTV News.
• Glenn’s video for his anti-bullying song, “Say my Name” is climbing fast on You Tube, with over 2, 500 000 views to date and acting as a catalyst for change and hope.
