Murray Heaton is a multi-instrumentalist originating from Newmarket, ON. He was inspired to pursue music as a career at a young age and continued to hone his skills after he was accepted into the Arts Huron music program at Huron Heights Secondary School. While studying the saxophone in this program Murray also pursued other creative projects, joining various bands on guitar, drums, and voice.

Murray was accepted to Humber College for Jazz Performance, and spent 4 years earning his BM and continuing to develop his skills on the saxophone. During this time, Murray studied with many well respected saxophonists such as Pat Labarbera, Alex Dean, Kirk MacDonald, Mark Promane, and Shirantha Beddage. He secured placements in the program’s top big band (the Humber Studio Jazz Ensemble) and top pop/funk ensemble (Groove Merchants) in his final two years of study. These opportunities established connections that would last many years into Murray’s professional career.

Since earning an undergraduate degree in 2015 Murray has stayed very active in the Toronto music scene, playing with many different artists and projects in different capacities. He currently can be found performing most often with Sole Power Live – one of Toronto’s premier event bands. He also performs with a number of local artists including Orson Wilds, Ten Kills The Pack and Maya Malkin. Other artists Murray has performed with over the years include Hannah Georgas, The Trews, Moonhead (Sam Pomanti), Meagan Delima, and many others. Murray can also be seen demonstrating his skills on camera in the 2016 reboot of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Global TV’s comedy/drama Private Eyes.

Currently Murray is pursuing a Masters Degree in Music Technology and Digital Media at the University of Toronto. Murray Hopes to continue to diversify his musical skills and continue working professionally in the music industry in as many facets as possible.
