Born in Camagüey, Cuba, violinist Yanet Campbell Secades is an accomplished soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Her skilled and sensitive playing has enabled her to perform not just in some of the most important venues in Cuba, but throughout Europe and the Caribbean. In 2015, she won the first prize at Cuba’s prestigious Unión de Artistas y Escritores Cubanos (UNEAC) competition, and in 2019 she was awarded Second Prize, in the string’s category, within the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals’ National Competition.

Yanet made her debut in 2016 with the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, performing the P. I. Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. From a young age, under the tutelage of her father, Sydney Campbell Herrera, she won several regional and national competitions. From 2000 to 2007 she was the First Prize winner of the Luis Casas Romero Provincial Music Competition, celebrated annually in her hometown. In 2003 she was awarded the Special Prize in the 1st category after her performance in the “José White” First International Competition for Violin Students in Havana.

During her high school years Yanet was the concertmaster of the National Art School Symphony Orchestra. As a member of the ISA violin, clarinet, and piano trio, during her undergraduate studies at the University of Arts in Havana, she won the First Prize in the 2012 edition of the Musicalia Chamber Music Competition. In Cuba, Yanet has worked professionally as a member of the Lyceum Mozartiano Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Yanet has been featured as a member of large music ensembles in international festivals such as the Mozartwoche Festival in Salzburg and the Reinghau Musik Festival in Germany. She has participated in orchestral musician’s workshops conducted by Ronald Zollman (Conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra) and Jorge Rotter (professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg). In masterclasses, Yanet has played for internationally renowned artists such as Roland Glassl, Miriam Fried, Renaud Capuçon, Eva León, Arabella Steinbacher, James Ehnes, Glenn Dicterow, and Paul Roczek.

The young violinist also has an active life as a music educator. She has taught at the Bahamas Music Academy and is currently a violin teacher at Dixon Hall Neighborhood Services Music School and at Kitchen Music Studios. She received her Masters of Music from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and she is currently in the second year of the Artist Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where she is a recipient of the Temerty Foundation Scholarship.
