Russell Leon aka Russell Sprout

Russell Leon is a multi-faceted musician and educator based in Toronto. On any given day, his career may find him in the hallways of Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) to the music clubs (Hughs Room, the Rivoli, the Cameron and the Horseshoe to name a few) and events in Toronto and the surrounding area.
The Russell Leon band will take you on a musical journey through an electro/acoustic soundscape that begs comparison to Beck, Flaming Lips, or a tripped-out Death Cab For Cutie. That being said…Russell can shape his sound to the gig. If the occasion requires an acoustic/roots music feel, Russell brings out the harmonica and upright bass. If people want to dance, it’s electric guitars and drums, he may even throw in some loops and samples for some extra groove.

Russell Leon aka Russell Sprout – has been teaching music, recording, and performing in Toronto for more than 20 years. A graduate of York University’s music program, Russell is an instructor on the faculty of the University of Toronto’s Jackman Institute of Child Study (OISE) and at the Humberside Montessori School. Russell’s ballad “Troubadour” received a coveted ‘Songs from the Heart’ award for Best Children’s Song from Folk Music Ontario. Russell maintains a busy private teaching practice and recording studio. Pre-covid Russell performed regularly with the Russell Leon Band www.rleonband.com. 


‘Funky Doodle’ is Russell Sprout’s debut recording for kids and incorporates humorous and educational themes wrapped up in an irresistibly silly package.
