Biography:

Composer-pianist Rea Beaumont (RAY-ah BO-mont) is an “internationally recognized interpreter” (The New Classical) known for her powerful performances and compoitions that highlight important global issues. She has premiered many works in collaboration with leading composers, including R. Murray Schafer, and her albums are broadcast around the world. Beaumont is a leading authority on Canadian music and the recipient of the SOCAN Foundation / MusCan Award of Excellence for the Advancement of Research in Canadian Music, a national award for established scholars. She has also received awards and grants from The Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, British Columbia Arts Council, SOCAN, and Toronto Arts Council.

Former Vice-President of the TMA (2020-2023), Rea has been a Director with Canadian Conference of Musicians Executive Board since 2023. She represented the Toronto Musicians’ Association as a Delegate at the AFM Conventions in Las Vegas (2023, 2016) and at the CFM Canadian Conference of Musicians (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021). After joining the TMA Board of Directors in 2011 she became Chair of the TMA Member Assistance Fund Committee, which provides assistance for musicians with longterm illness. She increased the available funding, streamlined the application process for greater accessibility, and established TMA Benevolent Fund Policies & Procedures with that committee. Beaumont was the founder and Chair of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Chair of Government Relations and Advocacy, and served on the Tariff of Fees Committee and Bylaws & Constitution Committee. She continues to advocate for a more inclusive arts sector on a national level as Chair of the CCofM Canadian Musicians’ Advocacy Committee.
