Talented young violinist, Maria Jojatu, began her musical endeavors at the age of 4 and quickly became a prolific musician in Boston. She entered the prestigious New England Conservatory Preparatory School to study violin performance and chamber music. Maria has been selected to participate in the Chamber Music Intensive Performance Seminar (CHIPS), and within the program, she played master classes for Donald Weilerstein, Paul Katz, Kim Kashkashian and Paul Biss, and performed in Boston’s beloved Jordan Hall. With her chamber music group, Maria won second prize in the BMI (Boston Music Institute) international competition. “Brilliant player! Extremely adaptable and full of creativity; wonderful to collaborate with.” – Peter Zazofsky, Boston University Professor and NEC Chamber Coach.
As a soloist, Maria played solo with Boston Pops the spring of 2021 in Boston’s Symphony Hall and Hatchshell Hall, and is a two-time winner of the MMTA (Massachusetts Music Teachers Association) competition. She was also selected to perform in Masterclasses for Miriam Fried, the former New York Philharmonic concertmaster Glenn Dicterow, and Juilliard Professor Joseph Lin. Maria has attended music festivals such as “Greenwood Music Camp” in Cummington MA and “Aria International Summer Academy”, where advanced students play solo repertoire and collaborate in high quality chamber music and orchestra. At the Glenn Gould School of music, she currently studies with Barry Shiffman and Paul Kantor. She was given the opportunity to perform for highly-respected violinists, such as Ida Kavafian, Stefan Jackiw, Ilya Kaler, and Timothy Ying. Currently, she is working on a creative project incorporating music corresponding to a plethora of art styles.
Throughout her life, Maria was constantly immersed in music. Her talented parents, both members of the Boston Symphony, are her greatest inspirations and remain her strongest support system and role models. Growing up, she loved to explore art in other fields, such as painting and drawing, and she excelled in gymnastics and tennis.
