Biography:

Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Amanda Chi has studied and performed internationally since the age of seven, studying both cello and piano. She is currently pursuing her Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould School at The Royal Conservatory of Music studying with Hans Jorgen Jensen and Andres Diaz. She also holds a B.M. degree in cello performance from New England Conservatory of Music, a M.M. degree from The Juilliard School, and a Master’s of Musical Arts from Yale University. Amanda has performed throughout the United States and abroad in leading venues such as Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, and The National Concert Hall in Taipei.
At the age of eleven, Amanda relocated to Toronto, Canada, after earning a scholarship to the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists. Under the tutelage of David Hetherington, she focused on cello studies and continued her piano education with Li Wang of the Glenn Gould School, achieving RCME grade 10 with first-class honors. In 2013, she became the youngest cello prize winner of the 8th Toronto Sinfonietta Concerto Competition. During the course of her cello studies, Amanda has performed in master classes taught by renowned artists, such as Timothy Eddy, Joel Krosnick, Colin Carr, Carter Brey, Raphael Wallfisch, Matt Haimovitz, Desmond Hoebig and many more. Full scholarships have granted her the opportunity to partake in music festivals such as the Banff Centre Arts programs, Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival, Formosa Chamber Music Festival, Taipei Music Academy Festival and Orford Musique.
Amanda led the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra cello section from 2019-2020 and has sat principal cello of the Yale Philharmonia and The Juilliard Orchestra. She has performed under conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Peter Oundjian, Leonard Slatkin, Hugh Wolff, Kent Nagano, Hanu Lintu, Giancarlo Guerrero, and Fabio Luisi. Additionally, Amanda has shared the stage with acclaimed artists Frank Huang and Cynthia Phelps in Taipei performing the Mendelssohn Octet.
