Biography:

Ravi studied the art of tabla playing in India. He first apprenticed under his uncle Pandit Nikhil Ghosh and then went on to study with tabla legend Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Ravi has been an active member of
the Toronto world music scene for nearly 20 years. As a vital
part of Toronto’s large South Asian community, Ravi continues
to perform traditional music from India. In 2011 Ravi received the
Grant’s Desi Achievers Award for his contribution to South Asian culture. Ravi has had several Juno nominations and is featured on
Kiran Alhuwalia’s Juno winning CD Beyond Boundaries. He is part of several groups based in Toronto, including So Long Seven, Near East and Sansar. Ravi has a masters degree in Ethnomusicology and is on the facultry of music at York University and Humber College. Along with vocalist Shirshendu Mukherjee, Ravi co-founded the Riyaz Institute of Hindustani Music, a non-profit school that offers quality instruction in North Indian vocal and tabla.
