Dennis Kwok is a multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer based in Toronto. Originally from Calgary, his interest in jazz and improvised music led him to further studies at Humber College where he completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition. Since then, he has been making waves in the Toronto music community with appearances at the T.U. Jazz Festival and opportunities to share the stage with JUNO-award winning artists,Allison Au, Alex Dean, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. In 2020, his debut album, “Windward Bound” was selected as TD Toronto Jazz Festival Discovery Series Special Project and has been lauded as “an elegant album of program music for 19-piece jazz orchestra” by WholeNote and “nothing if not ambitious” by Mel Minter of Musically Speaking. “Windward Bound” has since seen airplay on radio stations around the world. As an arranger and composer, Dennis is in high demand for his ability to seamlessly blend influences from all genres from chamber to folk to big band. His work has been showcased at the Etobicoke Jazz Festival, chosen for the Spectrum New Voices Composers Residency, and can be heard on several recordings by Toronto-based artists of all genres.
