Matti Pulkki is a Finnish accordionist currently based in Toronto. He performs frequently with different ensembles and as a soloist. Pulkki’s solo and chamber repertoire focuses mainly on original music written for accordion, but he also arranges, transcribes, and performs music from a wide range of styles and eras, from classical music to many global music genres. He also enjoys working on staged productions such as music theatre, musicals, and opera. Pulkki performs solo recitals frequently around the world, has made appearances on international festivals and held lectures about his instrument and its possibilities for composers at universities in Europe and North America. He is also a member of the critically acclaimed ensemble Quartetto Gelato. Pulkki holds a master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and is currently pursuing his DMA at the University of Toronto under the guidance of professor Joseph Macerollo.
