Biography:

A graduate of Sheridan College’s Musical Theatre program, Mark Cassius made his Broadway debut as Dance Captain/Ensemble for the 1989 revival of “Shenandoah”. He was an original cast member in the World Premier of “Ragtime” (1996) in Toronto and in 1998, that show gave him his second turn on Broadway. He was on Broadway for a third time in the revival of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in 2012. That production came out of his 2nd season at The Stratford Festival in 2011. His first season at Stratford was in 200in the role of “Mr. Magix” in “My One and Only”, for which he gained much critical acclaim. Mark has been featured in many of Canada’s Mega-Musicals, such as “Cats”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (with Donny Osmond),”Miss Saigon”, and “Showboat”. Regionally, he has performed for D2 Entertainment in “Hollywood Sings”, “A Starbright Christmas” and he was also Assistant Music Director for the revue, “What A Wonderful World”, starring Broadway Legend, Ben Vereen. He has graced the stages of Drayton Entertainment, with roles in “Damn Yankees”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Sweet Charity” and “Dance Legends”. Back at work in Toronto, he received a Broadway World, “Best Actor” nomination, for his role in “The Musical of Musicals (The Musical)”. From 1997 – 2005, he toured internationally with world-renowned Canadian acappella group, “The Nylons”.
He has been a Kiwanis Musical Festival adjudicator on both Regional and Provincial levels and is a widely sought after Vocal Coach. He has been a Music Theatre and Vocal Instructor at Randolph College for the Performing Arts since 2001 and has also taught Music Theatre Performance courses at Sheridan College and Toronto Metropolitan University. He continues to mentor and support young performers, while completing a Masters in Music Composition at York University and continues to live in gratitude for all his artistic opportunities.
