Biography:

Born in Toronto, Kenny Simon has been performing since age 10 and has enjoyed a great career in music. He has a serious wealth of music from all styles memorized. Critics consider him to be an outstanding guitarist and bassist. Playing with some of the finest musicians in North America and studying with the likes of legendary bassist Lenny Boyd and jazz guitarist Tony Braden have contributed to his excellence. Kenny has been influenced by Eric Clapton, Wes Montgomery, Mason Williams, Paul McCartney, Carol Kaye, and James Jamerson.

Kenny wrote and released the single ‘Never Get Hooked on Me’ which was placed in the ‘top 20’ of RPM’s adult contemporary chart listing. The song held its own between the likes of Billy Joel and Janet Jackson as well as being aired extensively across Canada.

Kenny has performed for many well-known dignitaries including Prince Philip and Prime Minister Jean Chretien.

Kenny also involves himself with other projects which include playing jazz guitar with a 21 piece big band, radio interviews, charity functions, and studio sessions.

At Toronto’s R & B/Jazz club Gate 403, Kenny recently has had great success performing solo. Here, he was featured in the TD Canada Trust Jazz Festival. Not only did he play his usual mix of jazz, classical and bossa nova on the guitar, he also was well received singing some rockabilly and standards, including songs by Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Bobby Vee, and Johnny Rivers.

On Toronto’s AM-740’s web site, Kenny can be seen in a video playing bass in their Concert Lobby, with the group Band-Tastic, originally aired live. He has also recently enjoyed a solo performance at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.

Kenny has attracted some of the best caliber musicians in Canada to his band. His musical influence has augmented the careers of many musicians, including two Juno Award winners; vocalists Divine Brown and Sonia Collymore, as well as Dave Langguth (drummer for Nelly Furtado). Wilson Laurencin, the drummer in Orin Isaacs band on CTV’s Mike Bullard show, plays regularly with Kenny’s band.

Other fabulous musicians sharing the stage with Kenny have included: Greg Critchley (drummer for FM and Kim Mitchell), Denese Matthews (vocalist in Beehive with Mary Wilson of The Supremes), Jack Posluns (drummer for Marvin Gaye), Tyrone Gabriel (vocalist with The Nylons), Michael Clarke (vocalist with The Lion King) and too many more to mention.

Kenny also enjoys working out, skiing, movies, theater, fishing, and composing.
