David Occhipinti is a long-standing contributor to the Canadian music scene. David’s musical accomplishments have earned him multiple JUNO nominations for his work as an improviser on his recognized album Forty Revolutions (2007), and collaborative albums Duolgue (2003 with Mike Murley) and Bristles (2014 with the Bristles Trio).

Studying under legendary jazz guitarist and composer, Jim Hall, David began melding improvisation with contemporary chamber music.The release of the album Camera (2012), features David’s compositions and guitar improvisations in a chamber music setting. Camera, was heralded by Jim Hall as: “an absolute gem. His writing is unique, his playing is completely original and stunning… an absolute work of art!”

As a composer, David has a wide-ranging list of works: for solo artists, (Mingjia Chen – voice, Erica Goodman – harp, Beverley Johnston – marimba), children’s choir (Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus), vocal works (on his CD these out of infinite), chamber groups (Camera Ensemble, Arraymusic, Art of Time Ensemble), and large ensembles (RALE).

Having performed across Canada, U.S., Europe, and Japan, David’s atmospheric compositions invite audiences to
experience his unique and inclusive musical world.
