I started piano at age 7 which involved playing at the Kiwanis festivals where I scored highly, before taking music more seriously in High School at Central Tech in Toronto. The Central Tech senior band is where I begun playing flute which came to me quite easily because of the musical theory I acquired from playing piano. I taught myself how to play saxophone and after graduating from High School travelled between Montreal and Halifax playing sax in a R&B band for a couple years which included touring with Ben E. King before going back to Ryerson to study business. After Ryerson I was one of the founding members of a Toronto R&B band named Crack Of Dawn which was the first black band to sign a major record deal with Columbia Records.
